As part of Catholic Schools Week, Ms Harkin’s Senior Infants celebrated Grandparents’ Day across a whole week! We invited the grandparents of the children to send us videos of themselves so that we could get to know them a little. Chloe’s Nana told us about knitting and her Granny told us the secret to knowing all our spellings and sums and Chloe brought in a lovely photo of her Granda in Heaven. Fionn’s Granda told us about all his gardening equipment and showed us how to use it. Kacper’s grandparents read us a lovely story about an egg hunt. Arabella’s Nana told us about growing up on a farm and her Granda did a magic trick where he found a chocolate coin behind her ear! Her Gran in Dublin also showed us all the beautiful jewellery that she sells. Zoe’s Nanny in Roscommon read us the story of ‘Puss in Boots’ and her Nanny in Letterkenny read ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. Víctor’s grandparents in Hungary sent us messages in Hungarian and even built snowmen specially for our class. Leo showed us a lovely photo of his Granny in Dublin holding a cup in memory of his Grandad. Eabha brought a beautiful picture of her Granda who she never met. Eva brought photos of her two Grannies and her Granda and told us all about her Granny’s shop. Lucy brought a gorgeous photo of her grandparents on their wedding day and also one taken on their 50th wedding anniversary. We watched a slideshow of photos of Oliver’s Granda, Granny and Great-Granny in Poland and Slovakia. Cillian’s grandparents, Nana and Johno in Cavan, sent us a video and Johno told us a great story entitled ‘Our News’ because he’s a Scór celebrity! His Granny Marie and Kevin also sent us a photo and their best wishes. We remembered all the grandparents in Heaven in a special way this week.
The children absolutely loved talking about their own grandparents and learning about the grandparents of other children. We spent lots of time talking about how special all grandparents are and about the special little things that they do for the children.
